The international wood processing, furniture and forestry trade fair UMIDS has well developed in the past years, and UMIDS is one of the most important branch trade shows in Russia today.
Krasnodar city is - besides Moscow - today the place for the biggest regional exhibitions in the Russian Federation. The building industry fair as well as the agricultural sector trade show in Krasnodar are leading industry events.

In April 2009, 300 companies and organisations exhibited on 6.598 sqm, thereof 67 sqm open area. Certainly due to the general financial crisis, the exhibitor number decreased by 10 % in comparison with the year 2008, when 340 exhibiting organisations and companies from 8 nations had participated in UMIDS also on hall space of 7,000 sqm.

Manufacturers of technologies, machines and equipment for wood processing as well as for furniture manufacturing present at UMIDS 2009 have been e.g. HOMAG, Leitz Instruments, Hecht Electronic, Nestro, Hoecker, RIELA, Hundegger, WEEKE, WEIMA, Kronospan, Rehau, Presto, Schelling et al.
In 2009, the presence of technology manufacturers was strong from Germany, Austria, Belarus, Slovenia, Finland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Serbia and Turkey.

UMIDS is a trade fair for market entry in South Russia because it is the platform for the furniture branch in the growth regions of the Russian South. Krasnodar Kray with a forest belt along the Black Sea Coast and the near pre-Caucasus mountain regions displays rich forestry and wood ressources. Sustainable forestry concepts as well as state-of-the-art technologies for the furniture market meet a market open for investments and growth.
Krasnodar is a very attractive region. People from other Russian regions chose it for their life, and the result is a growing region. Krasnodar Kray as Russian federal subject has about 7,000,000 inhabitants.  
For 2014, Sotchi in Krasnodar Kray prepares for the Olympic games. This event and the impetuous tourism industries are an important factor for the growth in wood and furniture industries of the region.
The fair UMIDS has become through its 12 years of its existence the platform for the industry, for representatives from companies, administration, politics and branch associations.
